The Persecution of the Jews

We, a team of over 30 persons, traveled to visit Israel as part of a the EPIC (experiencing people in context) trip sponsored by Grace Fellowship Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Every day was like an emotional roller coaster with "epiphanies" throughout the day - with highs and lows every step of the way. There was nothing typical about this trip to the Holy Land, but, instead, was an emotional "roller coaster". We launched into the trip at the Holocaust museum located just outside of Jerusalem. It was overwhelming to see the torture, oppression, and inhumane way in which the Jewish people were treated. It was painful to look into the "haunting" faces in the midst of such pain. My heart went out to the Jews as I could not truly relate to such persecution in my own life. The tour guide mentioned that at the time when Jews were being attacked and persecuted all over Europe a ship set sail with many Jews who were looking for a place to dock and make their home. They were rejected in 8 different places before they sailed to present Israel where they found a home. The state (or country of Israel) was born in 1948 as a place for the Jewish people to call their own. Our heart went out to the Jewish people who, having been so horribly treated, had found their place of refuge.
